Common Mistakes Made in the Pre-Construction Phase of a Project

If you are working as a contractor for a construction project you will need to make sure that all the planning and engineering is completed on time and while staying within the budget during the preconstruction phase of the project. But there are still some mistakes that a lot of contractors end up making during the preconstruction phase. Being aware of what these common mistakes are will help you in avoiding them when you are working on a new project. The following are some of the most common pre-construction mistakes that contractors make.

Failure To Define the Project Scope

Before beginning work on a construction project, it is necessary to have a clearly defined scope of work for the project. If the scope of work is not defined it means that you failed to establish objectives for the project. Failure to identify the expected deliverables will only result in the project being abandoned. Make sure to determine and document project specific goals before starting work on a new project.

Lack of an Execution Plan

Apart from having a defined project strategy you need to have an execution plan in place to ensure the success of your construction project. A failure to outline the resources needed for the implementation of the project will only lead to complications later on. Make sure to define the policies, procedures and priorities of your project. And figure out other details like the equipment dealers and material suppliers that you will need to contact in order to acquire necessary resources for the project. With a proper execution plan in place, you will not have to worry about these issues in the middle of the job.

Lack of a Proper Engineering Process

It is impossible to effectively complete a construction project without a proper engineering process. The designing, planning and execution of a construction project depends entirely on the engineering process. The application of these engineering processes needs to be correct for the success of a project.

In order to be able to complete your projects in time and while staying within the budget you need to avoid making the aforementioned mistakes.
